FITCHBURG, Mass. - Saint Joseph's College junior Darcey Ward (Dresden, ME/Hall-Dale) scored the only goal of the game 4:19 into the first overtime to lift the Monks past Fitchburg State College, 1-0, in a non-conference game Thursday afternoon at Elliot Field.
Sophomore Julia Ostrowski (Albany, NY/Gulderland Central) set up the game-winner with a great feed into the box that beat Fitchburg goaltender Emily Creen (Worcester, MA/Holy Name), who made three stops.
Freshman Kathleen Simoes (Walkefield, MA/Bishop Fenwick) turned away all four shots she faced in goal to record the win.
St. Joe's hosts the Castleton State Spartans of Vermont on Sunday, September 9th at 1 PM in their first home field hockey game.
