Nowell Named NAC Field Hockey Player of the Week

STANDISH, ME - The North Atlantic Conference has announced its weekly accolades and Saint Joseph's Kayla Nowell '11 (Bridgton, ME/Lake Region) has received Field Hockey Player of the Week honors.

For the reporting week ending October 19th, Nowell scored two goals and added two assists to help the Lady Monks post a 2-1 record. The sophomore tallied game-winning goals vs. Husson University on October 13th and Colby College, in the second overtime period, on October 16th.

In a 5-0 victory over Salve Regina on October 11th, Nowell tallied six points to break the single-season marks for goals, assists and points. She continues to add to these totals and leads the team with 15 goals, 13 assists and 43 points through 13 games. Her 61 career points ranks second behind teammate Julia Ostrowski's '10 (Albany, NY) 71 points.

Through October 20th, Nowell ranks first in the conference with 3.31 points per game and second in goals per game (1.15). As of October 12th, Nowell ranked second in NCAA D III with 1.1 assists per game, seventh in points per game (3.7) and 14th in goals per contest (1.3).

Saint Joseph's is 9-4 overall and 3-1 in NAC play this season under fourth-year head coach Rupert Lewis. The team will travel to Worcester, MA on Tuesday, October 21st to play Becker College at 3:00 PM in a non-conference match.
