Nowell Named NFHCA All-Region

STANDISH, ME - Saint Joseph's sophomore Kayla Nowell (Bridgton, ME/Lake Region) has been named to the Longstreth/National Field Hockey Coaches Association New England West All-Region Team.

Nowell, a North Atlantic Conference First-Team selection, paced the Royal Blue offense this fall with 21 goals and 57 points, both single-season record totals at St. Joe's. She also tallied a single-season high 15 assists to tie teammate Julia Ostrowski ‘10 (Albany, NY) for the team lead. Nowell led the NAC in points and ranked third in the league in goals in 2008. As of November 9th, she ranked 12th in the country with 2.89 points per game.

After two seasons of play under Head Coach Rupert Lewis, Nowell has scored a program-record 29 goals and accrued 75 points, which is the second-highest total in team history.

The Saint Joseph's field hockey team completed the 2008 campaign 15-6 overall, with the wins total being a new program best. The Lady Monks posted a 5-1 record against conference opponents and earned the #3 seed in their inaugural season as a member of the North Atlantic Conference. After falling in the NAC Championship game, 4-3 in overtime to Castleton State, the Royal Blue stickers collected their second straight ECAC Tournament berth.

The 2008 squad posted a .714 winning percentage and tallied 75 goals, 65 assists and 215 points, all new program-highs.
