MAHWAH, NJ - Ramapo College (6-8) defeated Saint Joseph's (9-4,
3-1 NAC) 3-2 in overtime on Saturday afternoon.
Gina Gaetani '09 (Auburn, ME)
scored a goal and registered two defensive saves in the losing
effort.
Ramapo staked an early 1-0 lead when Mackenzie Cahill '10 (Pompton
Lakes, NJ) scored an unassisted goal in the 10th minute. The
Roadrunners would take a 2-0 lead into the intermission after
Amanda Mavrakes '10 (Wayne, NJ) scored off a penalty corner at the
23:34 mark.
The Ramapo defense did not surrender an SJC shot in the first
half.
The Royal Blue offense came alive in the second half, with 10
shots, seven on net, and a pair of goals to knot the game at two
apiece. Gaetani netted her 10th goal of the
season, the assist going to Kayla
Nowell '11 (Bridgton, ME), off a penalty corner at
the 51:30 mark to cut the deficit to one goal.
Julia Ostrowski '10 (Albany, NY)
posted her 10th of the fall off another Nowell
helper eight minutes later to even up the score, 2-2.
The Lady Monks, coming off a thrilling 3-2 double-OT victory over
in-state rival Colby College, were unable to duplicate the heroics
from earlier this week against the Roadrunners as Mavrakes scored
her second marker of the game, fourth of the year, 8:17 into the
extra frame to capture the victory for the home team.
Three Saint Joseph's players combined to post five defensive saves
in the loss. Gaetani and Kimberly
Glynn '10 (Danvers, MA) each had two and
Rachel Ostrowski '12 (Albany, NY)
recorded one stop.
Meg Tierney '10 (Wayne, NJ) made seven saves, all in the second
stanza, for the Roadrunners and Meaghan
Johnson '12 (Portland, ME/Cheverus) recorded eight
saves for the Lady Monks.
Ramapo held a 19-10 shots advantage while St. Joe's had the 11-9
edge in penalty corners in the contest.
Saint Joseph's will travel to Worcester, MA on Tuesday, October
21st to play Becker College (8-8) at 3:00 PM.
