STANDISH, ME - Saint Joseph's College (1-0) defeated Regis
College (0-3) on Saturday, 8-0 in the team's first action of the
season. Junior Julia Ostrowski
(Albany, NY) notched three goals and an assist and senior
Gina Gaetani (Auburn, ME) added a
pair of goals in the Royal Blue victory. Sophomore
Alyssa Dunn (Standish, ME) dished
out two assists and freshman goalkeeper Meaghan
Johnson (Portland, ME/Cheverus) made four stops in
her collegiate debut.
Gaetani opened the scoring in the fourth minute
off a pass from Dunn and sophomore
Kayla Nowell (Bridgton, ME)
scored her first of two goals at the 4:35 mark on a pass from
Ostrowski to give the Lady Monks a 2-0 lead.
After Ostrowski rattled off three consecutive SJC
goals, the second coming off a pass from freshman
Sarah Bartell (Exeter, NH), to
put her team up 5-0, Nowell connected on her
second tally with 12 minutes to play.
Gaetani notched her second goal of the contest
just over a minute later off a pass from Dunn and
junior Jillian Kimball (Albany
Township, ME) recorded her first goal of the season with three
seconds left in the game to cap the scoring and provide St. Joe's
with a season-opening 8-0 victory.
St. Joe's outshot Regis by a 32-4 margin in the victory and Pride
junior goalkeeper Kristen Tavares (Acushnet, MA) made 17 saves.
St. Joe's is set to host Fitchburg State College on Wednesday,
September 10th at 4:00 PM.
