NEWPORT, RI - Sophomore forward Kayla
Nowell (Bridgton, ME) tallied two goals and two
assists to lead Saint Joseph's College (7-3, 2-1 NAC) to a 5-0 win
over Salve Regina (3-8) on Saturday afternoon. With the offensive
effort, Nowell broke the single-season marks for
goals (13), assists (11) and points (37). All three records were
previously held by Jen Marsh (12-9-31 in 2000).
Freshman goalkeeper Taylor
Allison (Pawtucket, RI) made three saves in goal
to record the shutout for the Monks, who improved to 7-3 with the
win. Junior goalkeeper Devin Eppley (Darien, CT) made 11 saves for
the Seahawks, who fell to 3-8.
Freshman midfielder Amanda
Sebastiao (Uxbridge, MA) opened the scoring at
4:03 when she converted a pass from Nowell for her fourth goal of
the season to give St. Joseph's a 1-0 lead.
Nowell's 12th tally of the season and first of the
afternoon off a feed from junior defender Jillian
Kimball (Albany Township, ME) at 32:34 capped the
first-half scoring and gave the Monks a 2-0 lead.
Senior forward Kelly Emerson
(Vassalboro, ME) netted her fifth goal of the season just 34
seconds into the second half to push the lead to 3-0, and goals by
Nowell at 39:41 and freshman forward
Sarah Bartell (Exeter, NH) at
62:45 closed the scoring.
The Monks outshot the Seahawks 17-7and held a 6-2 edge in penalty
corners.
St. Joe's will travel to Bangor, ME on Monday to play Husson
University in a 6:00 PM North Atlantic Conference contest. The
Seahawks return to action on Monday when they host New England
College Monday afternoon at 4:00 PM.
