2008 Field Hockey Team Awards Announced

STANDISH, ME -Head Coach Rupert Lewis has announced the 2008 Saint Joseph's Field Hockey team awards. In all, six players were recognized for their efforts during the ‘08 campaign in which the Lady Monks posted a program-best 15 wins.

Kimberly Glynn ‘10 (Danvers, MA) has been named as the 2008 Most Valuable Player. Glynn, who shared the team MVP last season, anchored an SJC defense that allowed a NAC-low 1.15 goals per game and led the conference in defensive saves with 14, which stands as a single-season record at St. Joe's.

Ashley Walukevich ‘12 (Kingston, NH) has received Most Improved Player honors. Despite playing in only six games in 2008, the freshman defender showed continual improvement throughout the season and will be looked upon to contribute next season.

Sarah Bartell ‘12 (Exeter, NH) and Amanda Sebastiao ‘12 (Uxbridge, MA) are the 2008 Co-Rookies of the Year. Both players received North Atlantic Conference Rookie of the Week accolades twice during the year. Bartell notched four goals and six assists to total 14 points while Sebastiao netted four goals for eight points in ‘08.

Gina Gaetani ‘09 (Auburn, ME) and Kayla Nowell ‘11 (Bridgton, ME) share the 2008 Coaches Award after posting individual efforts that helped propel the Lady Monks into the upper echelon of the conference. The pair combined to net 33 goals and 85 points in '08 and both players collected NAC First-Team All Conference honors following the season. Both players exhibited a rare work ethic and the ability to elevate the play of those around them last season.
