NAC Field Hockey Postseason Honors Released

STANDISH, ME - The 2012 North Atlantic Conference (NAC) Field Hockey postseason awards have been announced and two Saint Joseph's College players have been honored.

Senior defender Brittany Locke (Waterville, Maine) and junior forward Rachelle Messuri (Atkinson, N.H.) have both garnered Second Team All-Conference honors.

Locke, a First Team selection as a junior, started all 17 games and tallied two goals and a pair of defensive saves as one of the Monks' top defensive players this fall. The two-year team captain played in all 73 of the team's games during her four seasons and produced five goals and 11 defensive saves during her career.

Messuri claims All-Conference accolades after leading the Monks in goals (8), assists (8) and total points (24) as a junior. She ranked sixth in the NAC in assists and 12th overall in points and heads into her senior season having scored 14 goals with 12 assists over 55 career contests.

Saint Joseph's went 9-8 overall and 5-4 in conference play under the watch of eighth-year Head Coach Rupert Lewis this fall. The Monks earned the #5 seed in the NAC Tournament and fell to #4 New England College, 2-1, in the opening round of the tourney.

NAC Release:

Castleton senior forward Kealy Chipman has been selected the 2012 North Atlantic Conference (NAC) Field Hockey Player of the Year in a vote of the league's coaches. Chipman led the conference with 14 goals and 33 points in nine games for the league's most prolific offense.

The backfield duo of Annika Durell and Maicee Gustin that helped lead Husson to the top seed in the conference tournament garnered Defensive Player and Rookie of the Year respectively. Durell was a cornerstone of the Eagle backfield that allowed just over two goals per game. Gustin, a first-year goalie, led the league in goalie minutes while posting a pair of shutouts.

Husson Head Coach Jennifer Johnstone was voted Coach of the Year by her peers after piloting the Eagles to an 8-1 mark in conference play. Johnstone's Eagles are in search of their fourth-straight conference title this Saturday.

For the fourth-straight season Rivier College has been honored with the league's Sportsmanship Award.
