2013 Field Hockey Schedule Released

STANDISH, ME - The 2013 field hockey schedule has been announced. Saint Joseph's will play 16 games this fall with a slate that features nine North Atlantic Conference (NAC) contests and seven non-league tilts.

With ninth-year Head Coach Rupert Lewis leading the way, the Monks will face-off against an imposing list of non-conference opponents, a group that includes the likes of Plymouth State University, Salem State University, Salve Regina University, Southern Maine, Anna Maria College and Eastern Connecticut State University.

A new addition to the Monks' docket is Johnson & Wales University, which recently added field hockey to its list of NCAA DIII varsity sports and will begin play this fall. Johnson & Wales will play as an independent this season and is set to compete in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC), along with Saint Joseph's, Anna Maria, Simmons College, Rivier University, Lasell College and Mount Ida College, when the league begins sponsoring field hockey in 2014.

Overall, the 2013 list of opponents compiled a 129-155 (.454) record, collectively, a year ago. The Monks own a 91-84 (.520) all-time record versus the 16 teams combined.

Saint Joseph's will begin the 2013 campaign on August 31st when the squad travels to Willimantic, Conn. for a non-conference game versus Eastern Connecticut State (12:00 PM). The Monks' first six games are all on the road, as the team does not play at Mercy Field until Saturday, September 28th when Rivier comes to campus for a 12:00 PM start.

St. Joe's, a NAC associate member since 2008, is scheduled to begin conference play at Simmons on Saturday, September 21st (12:00 PM). The Monks will complete their fifth and final regular season in the NAC on Saturday, October 26th with a trip to Colby-Sawyer College (12:00 PM).

The conference tournament begins with a quarterfinal round on November 2nd and the semifinals will be played on November 6th. The NAC Championship is scheduled to take place on November 9th and the NCAA DIII Tournament begins on November 13th.
