Caiazzo Chosen as GNAC Rookie of the Week

STANDISH, Maine – Saint Joseph's College sophomore midfielder Elyse Caiazzo (Scarborough, Maine/Cheverus) has been selected as the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Field Hockey Rookie of the Week.

Caiazzo scored a pair of goals and added an assist in a 6-0 win over Rivier University on Saturday afternoon.

The sophomore two-sport athlete was named as the GNAC Women's Lacrosse Rookie of the Week on four occasions last spring and earned GNAC Rookie of the Year and First Team All-Conference honors after helping the Monks claim the first GNAC Championship in program history. The weekly conference honor is her first as a member of the SJC field hockey team.

Through four games this fall, Caiazzo has totaled five points – including a game-winning goal – and has served as the Monks' primary penalty corner injector with 15 attempts.

Saint Joseph's (3-1, 2-0 GNAC) will play at University of Southern Maine on Tuesday at 4:00 PM.
