Pomerleau Garners National Field Hockey Honor

STANDISH, Maine – Saint Joseph's College freshman forward Libby Pomerleau (Saco, Maine) has garnered 2016 Synapse Sports All-Rookie Team honors.

Pomerleau, the 2016 Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Rookie of the Year and First Team All-Conference selection, earns the national honor after leading the Monks in goals (16), assists (10), points (42), and game-winning goals (8) this fall. Her play was a major factor for a team that claimed the GNAC Championship, an NCAA Tournament berth, and an NCAA tourney victory – all program-firsts – in 2016.

As a freshman, Pomerleau established a new program single-season record for game-winners and also set new high-water marks for first-year players in goals, assists, and points. With historic numbers as a rookie, Pomerleau ranks among the elite players in team history for single-season totals in goals (third, tied), points (fourth), and assists (fifth).

The only GNAC player to garner Synapse Sports All-America or All-Rookie honors, Pomerleau finished the 2016 campaign ranked second nationally (165 NCAA DIII programs) among first-year players in goals and was third in both assists and total points when aligned with other NCAA DIII rookies.

Synapse Sports releases All-America and All-Rookie teams, as well as Player, Rookie, and Coach of the Year honors, for NCAA DI, DII and DIII field hockey and lacrosse on an annual basis. All accolades are voted on by members of the Synapse Sports staff.

Under the watch of 12th-year Head Coach Rupert Lewis, Saint Joseph's earned GNAC regular season and tournament championships with a 13-6 overall record and a 5-1 mark in conference play this fall. The program's first conference title resulted in an automatic berth into the NCAA DIII Tournament, and the Monks opened national tourney play with a 1-0 win at #10 Montclair State University on November 9th before falling to #11 Skidmore College in a Sweet 16 matchup three days later.
