WENHAM, Mass. – Saint Joseph's College (9-4) edged Gordon College (3-8), 2-1, after posting a 3-2 advantage in a penalty stroke shootout in non-conference field hockey action on Monday afternoon.

The Fighting Scots got on the board quickly as Natalie Adamez received a pass from Emily Allcroft and put it past the keeper in the ninth minute. That would be the last shot Gordon would attempt the rest of the half as the Monks attempted three shots during the remainder of the stanza with two being saved by Julia Altman to make it a 1-0 game at halftime.

In the second half, Saint Joseph's dominated possession as they attempted six shots, with three being on goal, while holding the Fighting Scots to zero shot attempts. Sophomore forward Libby Pomerleau tied the game with a goal in the 65th minute to send the game to overtime.

The Monks came out in the first overtime and received two penalty corners in the first three minutes of the period. That set up their only shot by Pomerleau in the 74th minute that went wide of the net. They received another penalty corner in the 82nd minute, but Gordon held them without a shot to send the game to the second overtime period.

The Fighting Scots held Saint Joseph's to one shot attempt in the second overtime that went wide in the 99th minute. Gordon was held without a shot in the period which sent the game to the shootout competition.

In the shootout, the Monks went first and Pomerleau scored to put them up 1-0. Kieran Thompson went next and missed her attempt. Arianna Kahler made her attempt for Saint Joseph's to put them up 2-0. Adamez missed her attempt and Elyse Caiazzo converted her attempt to put the Monks up 3-0. Gordon needed to make every attempt the rest of the way to keep them going in the shootout. Allcroft chipped the ball over the keeper to make it 3-1. Hayley Winslow missed her attempt to keep it at 3-1.

Mackenzie Gray converted her attempt to make it 3-2. Kayla Kelly missed her attempt to keep the score at 3-2. Sabrina Jandreau's attempt was blocked by Kaylin Mansir to seal the win for Saint Joseph's.

Up next for the Monks is a huge Great Northeast Athletic Conference contest at Simmons College on Saturday at 11:00 AM.
