9/17/22 – Saint Joseph’s Rolls Past Anna Maria, 5-0

PAXTON, Mass. – Saint Joseph's College (5-1, 2-0 GNAC) sailed past Anna Maria College (0-6, 0-2 GNAC), 5-0, in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) field hockey action on Saturday.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

The Monks dominated possession but did not find the back of the cage until the 28:18 mark when senior Alexa Gutowski (North Conway, N.H.) netted her first of four consecutive goals on the afternoon. The senior standout scored twice in a matter of 40 seconds to lift the visitors to a 3-0 lead early in the third quarter. 

Gutowski registered her ninth goal of the season on a Molly McCluskey (Orono, Maine) pass in the 45th minute and McCluskey added her first tally of the year in the 48th minute to cap the game scoring.

All five of the Monks' goals were scored on penalty corner attempts.

TEAM STATS:

The Monks held considerable leads in shots (36-0), shots on goal (32), and penalty corners (29-0) in the conference triumph.

THE KEEPERS:

SJC sophomore goalie Kassidy Collins (Gardiner, Maine) did not face a shot in the victory while Anna Maria netminder Hannah Tobey turned away 24 shots in a losing effort. The AMCATS also recorded three defensive saves on the afternoon.

HISTORICALLY SPEAKING:

With the victory, Saint Joseph's improves to 18-3 all-time versus Anna Maria College and has now defeated the AMCATS in eight straight meetings dating back to the 2014 campaign. Since that loss – a 1-0 GNAC quarterfinal setback on November 5th, 2014 – St. Joe's has outscored Anna Maria by a combined 31-3 margin in eight contests.
