Monks Murphy Named GNAC Player of the Week

STANDISH, ME - For the second time this season, Saint Joseph's junior Elbie Murphy (Loudonville, NY) has been named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week. The forward was also honored by the conference on January 14th.

In a 1-1 week for the Monks, Murphy averaged 24.5 points, 6.5 assists, 3.5 steals and 2 blocked shots per game and made 49% of his field goal attempts. In an overtime loss to GNAC opponent Johnson and Wales University on Saturday 2/9, Murphy scored 30 points for the third time this season and added 5 boards, 5 assists, 4 steals and 3 blocked shots.

Earlier this season the junior scored his 1,000th career point and presently ranks as the 21st overall scorer in Monks history with 1,087 points. Also, Murphy currently has 264 career steals, good for third all-time.

Murphy leads the Monks with 17.2 points, 3.2 steals and 1.3 blocks per game.

St. Joe's will travel to Nashua, NH on Tuesday 2/12 to face off against GNAC foe Daniel Webster College. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00 PM. The Monks will complete their regular season schedule with conference games against Norwich, Mount Ida and Emmanuel.
