Dunphe Named Maine Rookie of the Week

STANDISH, Maine – The Maine Men's Basketball Coaches & Writers Association (MMBCWA) weekly awards have been announced and Saint Joseph's College freshman guard Kolbyn Dunphe (Westbrook, Maine) has earned MMBCWA Rookie of the Week accolades.

Dunphe secures the first weekly honor of his career after providing a huge spark off the bench last week, when he averaged 8.0 points, 9.0 rebounds, 3.0 assists, and 1.0 steals in two GNAC wins. At Rivier on Tuesday, the freshman guard was an all-around contributor with eight points, 11 rebounds (including six on the offensive end), and three assists and added eight points, seven boards, three assists, and a pair of steals in a huge conference triumph over Lasell on Saturday. Overall, Dunphe dealt six assists and committed just one turnover in 47 minutes over two games.

In 19 games played this winter, Dunphe is averaging 2.3 points, 2.7 rebounds, and 1.5 assists while shooting 56.3% (18-32) from the field and 71.4% (5-7) from the FT line. In five games since assuming a larger role on January 20th against Elms College, the freshman is averaging 5.6 points, 7.4 rebounds, 3.6 assists, and 1.0 steals while shooting 57.1% (12-21) from the field. Dunphe has committed just four turnovers in 104 minutes during these five contests, all conference wins for the Monks.

Saint Joseph's faces a tough test on Wednesday when the Monks play host to GNAC-rival Emmanuel College at 7:30 PM.
