NORTHFIELD, Vt. – Saint Joseph's College (15-9, 11-2 GNAC) defeated Norwich University (16-8, 8-5 GNAC), 58-49, in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) men's basketball game on Tuesday evening. The victory extends the Monks' winning streak to eight games.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

St. Joe's sputtered out of the gates but rallied with a 27-7 run spanning 12 minutes to secure the lead for good. Sophomore John Paul Frazier (York, Maine) capped the outbreak with a pair of freebies and the Monks in front, 29-14, with 5:50 before the break.

Saint Joseph's held a 43-24 advantage after holding Norwich to a 23.5% (8-34) first-half shooting performance in the opening 20 minutes and claimed a game-high 27-point (51-24) cushion after freshman Remijo Wani (Portland, Maine) hit a three-pointer three minutes into the second stanza.

STATS OF THE GAME:

The Monks shot an even 50.0% (28-56) from the field, 41.9% (13-31) from downtown, and 94.7% (18-19) from the free throw line while the Cadets shot 36.4% (24-66), 30.0% (3-10), and 59.3% (16-27) from the floor, long distance, and the charity stripe, respectively.

LEADERS – SAINT JOSEPH'S:

  • Grad Ashtyn Abbott (Farmingdale, Maine) notched a double-double with 22 points and 10 rebounds while making 9-of-12 shots from the field
  • Frazier was 10-for-11 from the FT line with 21 points, four rebounds, and two blocked shots
  • Junior Julian Llopiz (Boston, Mass.) completed the Monks' 20-point trifecta with 20 points, five rebounds, and two assists
  • Sophomore Wani Donato (Portland, Maine) added six points, eight rebounds, and five assists

LEADERS – NORWICH:

  • Owen Liss scored 19 points with 10 rebounds
  • Jalen Olivero came off the bench to contribute 14 points, four rebounds, and three steals
  • Rodrick Pearson netted 10 points with four boards and three assists

HISTORICALLY SPEAKING:

Saint Joseph's is now 23-7 in the history of the series with Norwich University.
