MAINE MEN’S BASKETBALL COACHES AND WRITERS ASSOCIATION

STANDISH, ME - The Bowdoin College Polar Bears have been billed as the top men's college basketball team in the state of Maine in the annual Maine Men's Basketball Coaches and Writers Association's preseason poll in voting submitted by the head coaches.

The Polar Bears collected 5 first place votes and 41 total points to edge runner-up Saint Joseph's College which garnered 2 first place votes and 31 points. Bates College was third with 27 points followed by Husson College with 21 points. Rounding out the top five was Colby College with 19 points. Three other schools also received votes.

Junior Elbie Murphy of Saint Joseph's College, Senior Andrew Hippert of Bowdoin College and Sophomore Adam Choice of Colby College were the top three vote getters for the coaches' ten-player Preseason All-Star team. Rounding out the elite squad were Bryan Wholey of Bates College, Josh Daniels of the University of Southern Maine, Mark Gaudet of Colby College, Kyle Jackson of Bowdoin College, Drew Coppenrath of the University of Southern Maine, Pat Halloran of Bates College and Isaac Stickney of the University of New England.
