BOSTON, Mass.-- Freshman Chris Davis (New York, N.Y.) notched a double-double effort of 16 points and 14 rebounds as Saint Joseph's (Maine) used a game-ending 27-7 run to post a 93-73 Great Northeast Athletic Conference men's basketball victory over Suffolk Tuesday evening at Regan Gymnasium.

The visiting Monks (6-4, 4-1 Great Northeast) overcame a six-point halftime deficit (49-43) to forge a 66-63 lead on a three-pointer by sophomore Tyler Kelley (Saco, Maine) with 11:53 remaining, and after a three-pointer by junior Brian Small (Stoughton, Mass.) evened matters for the host Rams (2-11, 1-5 Great Northeast) with a three-point on the ensuing possession, Saint Joseph's took control of the contest with an 8-0 run, capped by a lay-in by junior Scot Vachon (Schenectady, N.Y.), with eight minutes remaining for a 74-66 advantage. Suffolk closed back to within five points (78-73) on a free throw by sophomore Joseph Ransom (Sheffield, England), but the Monks scored the final 15 points of the evening over the final 4:06 of action to account for the final score.

The Rams scored nine of the game's first 11 points and built their advantage to as many as 12 points (37-25) in the opening 20 minutes of action, but Saint Joseph's climbed back into the game with a 15-3 run over a three-plus minute stretch before intermission, as Suffolk ended the half on a 7-3 run for its six point edge at the break. The hosts maintained a seven-point edge early in the second half before the visitors took control over the last 12 minutes of action.

Junior Elbie Murphy (Loudonville, N.Y.) matched Davis by scoring 16 points as part of a quintet of Monks in double figures, while sophomore Alberto Rue (Jamaica Plain, Mass.) made 4 of 5 three-point attempts and chipped in with 15 points off the bench. Vachon finished with 14 points and seven assists for Saint Joseph's, which also received a double-double performance of 11 points and 11 boards from sophomore Alonso Davis (Richmond, Va.) as the visitors shot 45 percent from the field and held a 57-40 rebounding advantage as well as a 22-9 scoring edge at the foul line for the night.

Small scored 23 points and grabbed nine rebounds in the setback for Suffolk, which also received 23 points and eight boards from sophomore Alan Jaziri (Norwich, Conn.). Freshman Allan Ray (Lynn, Mass.) added nine points and five assists for the Rams, who also received eight points and five rebounds from freshman Mike Fleming (Exeter, N.H.) as well as six assists from freshman Samuel Alexanian (Nashua, N.H.). The hosts shot 40 percent from the field and canned 10 three-pointers (including five by Jaziri) but hurt themselves with 25 turnovers that were converted into 29 Monk points.

Suffolk heads to Newton, Mass. on Thursday evening to take on Mount Ida in a Great Northeast match-up that begins at 6:00 p.m., while Saint Joseph's hosts Lasell in a Great Northeast outing on Thursday evening in Standish, Maine that begins at 7:30 p.m.
