STANDISH, ME - Saint Joseph's improved to 11-4
overall and 5-3 in GNAC play with a 73-65 victory over Emmanuel
College (6-8, 3-4) on Monday afternoon at the Alfond Center.
Zach O'Brien '12 (Schenectady,
NY) led the Monks with 15 points while Ray
Eatmon '10 (Huntington, NY) collected his third
consecutive double-double with 11 points and 10 caroms in the win.
Mike Jackson ‘10 (New York, NY) led the Saints with a
game-high 20 points.
Neither team was able to maintain momentum in the first half, which
featured six lead changes, as the largest lead attained by either
squad was six points late in the stanza.
Saints forward Tyrone Buchanan ‘11 (Detroit, MI) scored hoops
on consecutive possessions to lift the visitors to a 25-20 lead
with 10 minutes left in the first stanza, but the Monks answered by
outscoring Emmanuel 13-4 for the remainder of the half to take a
33-29 lead into the break.
St. Joe's, aided by a 19-22 performance from the line, did not
trail Emmanuel in the second half. The Saints cut the deficit to
45-43 after Jackson connected on a jumper at the 12:14 mark, but
the Monks put the game out of reach with a 13-2 outburst, making
7-8 free-throw bids, in the next three minutes to take a
thirteen-point lead. The Monks went on to maintain at least a
seven-point edge for the remainder of the contest and went on to
earn a 73-65 conference win.

‘11 (New York, NY) scored 11 points and
Elbie Murphy ‘09
(Loudonville, NY) tallied nine points and five assists.
Tyler Kelley ‘11 (Saco, ME)
and Chris Petzy ‘12 (East
Kingston, NH) added eight points apiece and Scot
Vachon ‘09 (Schenectady, NY) recorded five
assists in the win.
As a team, Saint Joseph's recorded 17 assists on 23 baskets and
shot 74.2% (23-31) from the line in the triumph. Emmanuel shot just
40% (8-20) from the line posted 10 assists on 27 field goals.
Neither team fared well from beyond the arc, as the Monks shot
30.8% (4-13) against just 15.8% (3-19) by the Saints.
For the Saints, Mack Spellman ‘09 (Clinton, NY) scored 14
points and Eric Spanbauer ‘12 (Niagara Falls, NY) contributed
nine points and seven rebounds in the loss.
Saint Joseph's will host GNAC rival Albertus Magnus on Saturday,
January 24th at 3:00 PM while Emmanuel is set to host Suffolk
University at 5:30 PM on Wednesday, January 21st at 5:30 PM.
