Kelley Named GNAC Player of the Week

STANDISH, ME – The Great Northeast Athletic Conference has released its weekly honors and Saint Joseph's College senior guard Tyler Kelley (Saco, ME) has been selected as the Men's Basketball Player of the Week.

Kelley enjoyed an outstanding week while leading the Monks to a pair of victories over in-state rivals Maine-Farmington and University of Southern Maine. He averaged 22.0 PPG and shot 68% (17-25) from the floor, including a 46.2% (6-13) effort from beyond the arc over the two games and scored 27 points, including 11 consecutive points late in the first half, to help the Monks erase an 11-point deficit and defeat USM on November 28th.

Kelley also garnered Maine Men's Basketball Coaches and Writers Association Honor Roll mention for his efforts last week.

Through three games for the undefeated Monks, Kelley is averaging 19.7 points, three rebounds and two steals per contest. He currently leads the Royal Blue in points, scoring average, steals (6), and field goal success rate (66.8%).

For Kelley, a 2010 Second Team All-GNAC selection, the weekly conference honor is the second of his career. He received the same award on December 14th, 2009.

One of the most prolific long-distance shooters in program history, Kelley is marching his way up the Monks' leaderboard in several three-point-shooting categories. He is currently tied for fifth in career three-pointers made (126) with Travis Seaver '03 and is ranked 10th in team history in threes attempted (284). With a 43.4% success rate, he entered his senior season with the best career long-range shooting percentage. His hot start to the 2010-11 campaign has pushed his three-point rate up to 44.4%.

Saint Joseph's will play at Husson University on Wednesday night at 7:00 PM and will host Emerson College on Saturday at noon in the Monks' 2010-11 conference opener.
