STANDISH, ME – Saint Joseph's junior swingman Zach O'Brien (Schenectady, NY/Bishop Gibbons) has collected Maine Men's Basketball Coaches and Writers Association (MMBCWA) Second Team All-State honors.

O'Brien earns the accolade after leading the Monks in scoring (17.0 PPG), rebounding (4.8 RPG), assists (4.3 APG) and field goal percentage (48.4%, 186-384) this winter. For O'Brien, a two-time All-GNAC honoree, the All-State award is the first of his collegiate career.

O'Brien paced all Maine players in total assists (121) and ranked fifth in free-throw percentage (81.4%, 70-86). He also was 9th in scoring average among Maine NCAA DIII and NAIA players.

He is just the second player in 41 years of Monks Basketball history to lead the Royal Blue in scoring, rebounds and assists in the same season. John Wassenbergh '96, who paced Saint Joseph's in all three categories during the 1995-96 campaign, was the first.

O'Brien's 2010-11 point total (476) is the most in a season by an SJC player since Chad Pulkkinen '07 recorded 505 points in 30 games during the 2006-07 campaign.

His name is littered throughout the SJC men's basketball record book after just three seasons. His career FT% (78.6%, 176-224) currently ranks third all-time and he is likely to inch his way into the top ten in a multitude of statistical categories during his senior year.

O'Brien became the 34th member of the Monks' 1,000-point club in a win over Rivier College on February 15th. O'Brien is just the 12th player in team history to reach the milestone during his junior season.

Saint Joseph's finished the 2010-11 campaign with a 20-8 overall record and played to a 15-3 mark in GNAC tilts this winter.
