O'Brien and Petzy Claim All-State Recognition

STANDISH, ME - The 2012 Maine Men's Basketball Coaches and Writers Association (MMBCWA) All-State teams have been released and two Saint Joseph's College players have received recognition.

Senior guard Zach O'Brien (Schenectady, N.Y.) is listed on the First Team and senior guard Chris Petzy (Kensington, N.H.) is a Second Team honoree.

O'Brien, a two-time First Team All-Conference selection and 2011 Second Team All-State recipient, led the Monks in scoring (17.3 PPG), rebounding (4.6 RPG) and free throws made (76) and ranked second on the squad in assists (3.0 APG), field goal efficiency (43.9%) and steals (1.2 SPG).

Petzy averaged 14.7 points and 3.3 rebounds per game and led all Maine DIII players with an 85.9% (61-71) shooting effort from the free throw line as a senior. The 2012 Second Team All-GNAC selection also led the conference in three-pointers made and ranked second in the GNAC with a 39.9% shooting mark from downtown in 2012.

Both players eclipsed the 1,000-point plateau during their collegiate careers as the duo combined to net 2,820 points over four seasons, the most since Carl Howell '99 and Mike Hynes '99 amassed 3,033 during their careers.
