STANDISH, ME – Junior guard Matthew Medeiros (Westport, Mass.) has been selected as the Maine Men's Basketball Coaches and Writers Association (MMBCWA) Co-Player of the Week and Saint Joseph's College has topped the MMBCWA Weekly Coaches Poll after receiving all seven first-place votes and 35 total points.
Medeiros, who shares the weekly honor with Maine-Presque Isle junior guard Aaron Hutchins (East Millinocket, Maine), kicked off the season with a tremendous effort, scoring a career-high 29 points in an impressive 82-62 victory over Bowdoin College on November 20th. The junior guard shot 9-12 from the field, including 6-8 from three-point range, in the triumph and went on to net 12 points in a 70-56 win over University of Southern Maine on Sunday. For the week, Medeiros shot 56.5% (13-23) from the floor and 50% (7-14) from downtown.
Prior to this reporting period, Medeiros had never before earned an MMBCWA weekly honor. He has been listed on the MMBCWA weekly honor roll on five occasions during his career and was also named as the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Rookie of the Week on January 31st, 2011.
Saint Joseph's will host Bates College in a non-conference matchup tonight at 7:00 PM.
