Medeiros Chosen as MMBCWA Player of the Week

STANDISH, ME – The Maine Men's Basketball Coaches and Writers Association (MMBCWA) weekly honors have been announced and Saint Joseph's College senior Matthew Medeiros (Westport, Mass.) has collected Player of the Week accolades for the second time this season.

Medeiros posted impressive numbers in a 2-0 conference week for the Monks, averaging 20.0 points, 4.5 assists, 3.0 rebounds and 1.5 steals to help Saint Joseph's improve to 10-2 in GNAC play. The senior guard was lights out in a 74-55 victory over #16 Albertus Magnus College on Saturday when the sharpshooter netted 24 points off a 5-8 effort from three-point distance with a career-high seven assists to help hand the Falcons their first NCAA DIII loss of the season. Medeiros shot 53.8% from the floor and 47.1% from downtown for the week.

Medeiros, who also earned GNAC Weekly Honor Roll mention for his efforts, shares the MMBCWA honor with Colby sophomore forward Patrick Stewart (Bangor, Maine), who averaged 15.3 points, 6.7 rebounds and 3.0 assists while shooting 47.2% from the field last week.

The senior guard currently leads the conference in three pointers made (71) and ranks fourth in three-point field goal percentage (43.8%) and fifth in total points (337). Medeiros is second on the team in scoring (17.7 PPG) and also averages 3.6 rebounds and 2.5 assists per game with a solid 1.8 assists to turnover ratio through 19 contests.

Saint Joseph's (11-8, 10-2 GNAC) will face off against GNAC-rival Mount Ida College in Newton, Massachusetts at 6:00 PM on Wednesday.
