Medeiros Earns Fourth Maine Weekly Accolade

STANDISH, ME – The Maine Men's Basketball Coaches and Writers Association (MMBCWA) weekly accolades have been announced and Saint Joseph's College senior guard Matthew Medeiros (Westport, Mass.) has garnered Player of the Week honors for the second-consecutive reporting period.

Medeiros averaged 23.0 points while shooting 46.9% (15-32) from three-point range in a 2-1 week for the Monks. The senior guard was 6-10 from downtown with 21 points versus Anna Maria College on Wednesday, poured in 26 off a 7-12 three-point effort against Mount Ida on Thursday, and added 22 points in a hard-fought loss at the hands of Lasell College on Saturday.

Through 26 games, Medeiros leads the Monks in scoring (18.4 PPG), three-point field goals (96) and three-point percentage (43.4%). He also ranks second on the team in field goals made (154), free throws made (74) and free-throw percentage (78.7%) and sports averages of 3.6 rebounds and 2.5 assists per contest. Medeiros also earned GNAC Honor Roll mention for his play last week.

A 2013 First Team All-Conference and First Team All-State honoree, Medeiros has been selected as the MMBCWA Player of the Week four times this winter and has been listed on the GNAC Weekly Honor Roll on nine occasions during his career.

Saint Joseph's (17-9, 15-3 GNAC), the #2 seed in the GNAC Tournament, defeated #7 Suffolk University, 80-72, in a tourney quarterfinal on Tuesday and will host #3 Johnson & Wales University in a semifinal on Thursday at 7:30 PM.
