Casale Claims Third GNAC Rookie of the Week Award

STANDISH, Maine – The Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) weekly awards have been released and Saint Joseph's College freshman guard Jack Casale (Portland, Maine/Cheverus) has been selected as the GNAC Corvias Men's Basketball Rookie of the Week for the third time this season.

Casale averaged 17.0 points, 5.0 rebounds and 2.5 assists while shooting 50% (11-22 FG, 8-17 3PT) in a pair of victories last week.  The freshman guard scored 15 points with four boards in a huge non-conference road win over Bowdoin on Tuesday before tallying 19 points, six rebounds and four assists in a GNAC victory over Rivier on Saturday.

Through seven games for the 4-3 Monks, Casale is averaging 13.0 points, 6.0 rebounds, and 2.4 assists per contest while shooting 44.8% (30-67) from the floor, 41.9% (18-43) from three-point distance, and 68.4% (13-19) from the free throw line. He currently leads the team in three pointers made and rebounding and is second in assists (17) and free throws made.

Casale also ranks sixth in the GNAC in three pointers made and 10th in three-point percentage.

The freshman guard is the first Saint Joseph's men's basketball player to earn three GNAC Rookie of the Week accolades.

Saint Joseph's will travel to Daytona, Florida to face Wooster in the Mauro Panaggio Tournament on Sunday at 12:00 PM. On Monday, the Monks will take on either Brockport or Whittier, start time TBD.
