STANDISH, Maine – Saint Joseph's College sophomore guard Jack Casale (Portland, Maine/Cheverus) has been selected as the Maine Men's Basketball Coaches & Writers Association (MMBCWA) Player of the Week for the second time this season.
In a 2-0 week for the Monks, Casale averaged 26.5 points, 8.5 rebounds and 3.5 assists while shooting 53.1% (17-32) from the field and 63.2% (12-19) from three-point range. In a 103-87 win over UNE on Wednesday, he scored a career-high 38 points (12-21 FG, 9-13 3PT, 5-6 FT) - tying the SJC single-game trifectas made record - to go with 11 rebounds and four assists. He added 15 points and six boards in an 82-56 triumph over Bates on Saturday.
Casale also garnered Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) weekly honor roll mention for his efforts.
Through eight games for the 6-2 Monks, Casale is averaging 25.0 points, 8.6 rebounds, 4.1 assists, 1.5 steals, and 0.8 blocks per game. He is shooting 51.5% (68-132) from the floor, 53.8% (35-65) from downtown, and 76.3% (29-38) from the FT line and leads the team in scoring, rebounding, assists, steals, field goals, three-pointers, and free throws made, and three-point percentage.
Every week the MMBCWA releases a Coaches Poll and, with 20 points, Saint Joseph's is ranked third behind Colby College (40 pts) and Husson University (28) and ahead of Bowdoin College (16) and UMaine-Farmington (12). Southern Maine and Maine Maritime also received votes in this week's rankings.
