Monks Hold Off Chargers, Win Fourth Straight

HOW IT HAPPENED:

Despite starting the game shooting 3-for-17 in the opening eight minutes, the Monks faced just a three-point deficit (17-14) before freshman forward Wani Donato (Portland, Maine) made a layup at the 6:59 mark to ignite a 21-5 run, which saw the visitors secure a 35-22 cushion heading into intermission.

The Chargers kicked off the second stanza with a 17-6 outbreak, as Omar Boone capped the surge with a pair of freebies to cut the Monks' lead down to two points (41-39) with 14:05 remaining.

Leading 48-43 four minutes later, St. Joe's earned some much-needed breathing room with a 17-5 outbreak as junior guard Camryn Yorke (Auburn, Maine) closed the swing with a three-pointer and his team on top by a game-high 17 points (65-48) with 6:38 on the clock.

Colby-Sawyer managed to make things interesting in the closing minutes, as the SJC shooters hit another rough patch and ball security became an issue. The Chargers cut their deficit down to five points (72-67) with 19 seconds left on the heels of a 19-7 run, but time ran out on the hosts' comeback bid.
