How It Happened:

The Monks opened the scoring with a layup in the first two minutes before the Huskies had an 11-3 run to close out the first five minutes of play.

Southern Maine went up by as many as 10 points during the first half but the Monks kept chipping away and cut the lead to three before a late layup by Whelan put the Huskies up 36-31 at the break.  Whelan had 11 points in the half to lead all players.  Dixon added eight points.

The Huskies extended the lead to 11 over the first seven minutes of the second half with Allen draining a pair of threes during the stretch.

A 10-2 run by the Monks cut the lead to 54-51 with 10:11 left on the clock but the Huskies answered with a 9-2 run in which they made three-of-four free throw attempts.  Sophomore Joe Longoria (New Braunfels, Texas) went 3-for-4 on free throws while senior Cody Hawes (Carmel, Maine/Hermon) made both his attempts for his first points of the season after missing the first two games.  The run by the Huskies helped put the game out of reach as they held on for a 79-66 win.
