North Dartmouth, Mass. - The
University of Massachusetts Dartmouth men's soccer team scored a
goal in each half and blanked St. Joseph's, 2-0, at Cressy Field
Tuesday afternoon.
Sophomore forward Lee Soares (Dartmouth, MA/Dartmouth HS) opened
the scoring for the Corsairs. He took a pass from junior forward
Dennis Toomey (Edgartown, MA/Martha's Vineyard HS) and beat SJC
goalkeeper Brian White (Colebrook, NH/Colebrook
Academy) to make it 1-0.
Freshman midfielder Thomas DeMiranda (Yarmouth, MA/Dennis-Yarmouth
HS) made it 2-0 at the 64:17 mark. He headed home a cross from
senior midfielder Jon Hafer (Marlboro, MA/Marlboro HS) to account
for the final score.
Sophomore goalkeeper Adam Rolfe (Southwick, MA/Southwick HS) made
four saves for the shutout. White was credited with four saves for
the Monks, who were out shot, 14-6.
The Corsairs evened their record at 3-3 with the victory, while
Saint Joseph's fell to 1-4-1.
The Monks next travel to Waterville to take on the
Terriers of Thomas College on Thursday, Sept. 29, at 4 PM.
