NASHUA, N.H. – Saint Joseph's College (9-2-2, 9-1-0 GNAC) sailed past Rivier University (2-8-4, 2-6-3 GNAC), 3-0, in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) men's soccer contest on Wednesday evening.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Junior midfielder Rion Dos Santos (São Paulo, Brazil) started the scoring in the 24th minute when he was tripped up in the box, awarded a penalty kick, and buried the attempt into the bottom right corner.
Freshman Cole Bishop (Gorham, Maine) extended the SJC advantage to 2-0 barely six minutes later when he tapped in a shot off a right-to-left cross in the box from Will Wood (Franklin, N.H.).
Senior Icaro Vieira (Westborough, Mass.) closed out the scoring ledger when he converted another PK bid with a shot to the right side of the net at the 82:10 mark.
TEAM STATS:
Saint Joseph's held considerable advantages in shots (16-6), shots on goal (10-1), and corner kicks (8-0) in the victory.
THE KEEPERS:
SJC junior Liam Foley (Middleton, Mass.) made one save in what was his seventh shutout of the season while Rivier netminder Dominic Cunha registered six stops in a losing effort.
HISTORICALLY SPEAKING:
With the win Saint Joseph's improves to 15-2-1 all-time versus Rivier University and has now defeated the Raiders in 15-consecutive contests.
