Leicester, MA - The SJC Men's soccer team falls to 2-7-3, 1-4-1 GNAC after a 6-3 loss to the Becker College Hawks (9-4-0, 3-1-0 NAC) on Sunday. The Hawks out-shot the Monks 21 to 7 and were led by JR R.J. Giegerich (Londonderry, NH) and JR Jason Gianatti (Southington, CT) as each player scored two goals in the contest.
The Monks gained the lead in the 16th minute as SO Doug MacCallum (Hingham, MA) scored his fourth goal of the season off a pass from teammate FR Paul Robins (Cornwall, England). FR Matt Zinchuk (Bethel , ME) took a pass from MacCallum to score his first collegiate goal in the 70th minute to tie the game 2-2. Unfortunately for the Royal Blue, the Hawks scored three times before SR Captain Shannon DeShield (Pembroke, Bermuda) tallied his first goal of the season to make the score 5-3 Becker College. The Hawks' JR R.J. Geigerich scored the final goal of the game to put the Hawks up 6-3. SO GK Cory Smith (Ellsworth, ME) made 10 stops in the loss.
The Monks travel to East Providence, RI on Saturday 10/13 to play GNAC rival Johnson and Wales University. Game time is 1:00 PM.
