East Providence, R.I. - Senior Michael Gliniecki
(Baltimore, Md.) scored four goals to lead the Johnson & Wales
men's soccer team to an impressive 7-0 shutout victory against
Saint Joseph's of Maine in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference
contest at Pierce Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
Glinecki got JWU on the board early when he converted a penalty
kick to give the team a 1-0 lead at the 8:50 mark. His second goal
of the game came on a free kick from 20 yards out to give the
Wildcats a 2-0 advantage at the 29:38 mark. JWU added a third first
half goal when junior Jeremiah Schenzel (Carson City, Nev.) headed
in a cross from sophomore Eric Flath (Warwick, R.I.), making the
score 3-0 at 36:15. JWU took the three goal lead into halftime.
The Wildcats continued their offensive explosion early in the
second half when senior Joel Reynolds (Middletown, Pa.) put in a
corner kick from Flath, making the score 4-0 at the 47:20 mark.
Senior Brian Sousa (Providence, R.I.) then headed in a throw in
from sophomore Scott Kirchner (Irvine, Calif.) at 49:43 to give the
Wildcats the 5-0 advantage. A pair of goals by Gliniecki, first at
53:26 and then at 79:10 would cap off the scoring for the afternoon
as JWU cruised to the 7-0 victory.
Freshman Joe Ferraro (Freehold, N.J.) made one save and sophomore
Chris Limerick (Middletown, N.Y.) made one stop in goal for Johnson
& Wales while SO Cory Smith (Ellsworth, Maine)
had seven saves in the setback for Saint Joseph's.
With the loss St. Joseph's of Maine falls to 2-8-3, 1-5-1 in league
play. Johnson & Wales is now 7-4-3 and 6-1 in the GNAC.
The Monks Men next travel to Quincy, MA to play the Eastern Nazerene College Crusaders on Monday, 10/15. Game time is 3:30.
