Castine, Maine - Maine Maritime Academy came away with a 3-1 win
over Saint Joseph's College tonight in Castine. MMA got goals from
three people and were very opportunistic as they capitalized three
times on only six shots.
In the non-conference match that saw St. Joe's outshoot MMA 17-6,
MMA broke the 1-1 tie at the 64 minute mark to go ahead 2-1 and
scored one more time to escape with the win.
The Monks scored first 15 minutes into the match as Doug
MacCallum shot the ball over MMA keeper Randy Bartlett
(Lincoln, NH) on a pass from Andre Cushing to go
up 1-0. 11 minutes later MMA struck back as Tyler Eads (Belfast,
ME) scored off a direct kick just outside the box to even the score
at the half 1-1. MMA pulled ahead 2-1 in the 64th minute when Josh
McFarlin (Searsport, ME) slid the ball by the keeper on a break
away off a pass from Alan Alexander (Cumberland, ME). MMA put the
finishing touches on a great win when Jeff Norman (Orono, ME)
scored off a feed from Daniel Hassett (Brunswick, ME) to give the
Mariners the 3-1 victory.
Randy Bartlett got the win in goal for MMA stopping 7 of the 17
Monks shots. The win improves his record to 2-2-1 on the season.
Cory Smith took the loss for St. Joe's, giving up
both second-half goals while making 1 save. Greg
Cavanaugh gave up 1 goal in the first half between the
