SOMERVILLE, Mass.-- Sophomore Nick Celia (Hanson, Mass.)
completed a hat trick by netting the game-winner with 2:23
remaining to lift Suffolk to a 4-3 Great Northeast Athletic
Conference men's soccer victory over Saint Joseph's (Maine)
Saturday afternoon at Dilboy Stadium.
Celia converted an indirect kick off the foot of senior Marco
D'Andrea (Belmont, Mass.) on the game-winner for the host Rams
(3-2, 1-1 Great Northeast), as the duo combined to net all four
Suffolk markers on the day.
Celia gave the hosts an early 1-0 lead in the 22nd minute on an
D'Andrea feed, but the visiting Monks (2-4, 1-2 Great Northeast)
evened matters just 59 seconds later on an unassisted marker off
the foot of sophomore Doug MacCallum (Hingham,
Mass.) to forge a 1-1 tie at the break. D'Andrea gave the Rams the
lead back at 2-1 just 4:58 after intermission after converting a
feed from freshman Adrian Brendel
(Munich, Germany) for his fourth goal of the season, and Celia
notched his second tally of the day off another D'Andrea pass in
the 64th minute to extend the Suffolk edge to 3-1.
Saint Joseph's struck for a pair of markers in less than two
minutes to even the contest at 3-3, as MacCallum's second score of
the match on an assist from senior Shannon
DeShield (Pembroke, Bermuda) in the 76th minute that was
followed by
junior Lane Hubacz's (Mapleville, R.I.) conversion
of sophomore Andre Cushing's (Hampden, Maine)
corner kick in the 78th minute set up Celia's late heroics for the
hosts.
Freshman Jack DeJesus (Swampscott, Mass.) picked up his third win
of the season in goal for Suffolk with a four-save effort, while
sophomore Greg Cavanaugh (Haverhill, Mass.) made
five stops in net for Saint Joseph's as the Rams outshot the Monks
by a 15-10 margin for the contest.
Suffolk travels to Newton, Mass. on Wednesday afternoon to take on
Lasell in a Great Northeast match that begins at 4:00 p.m., while
Saint Joseph's hosts Maine-Farmington in a non-league match on
Tuesday afternoon in Standish, Maine that also begins at 4:00 p.m.
