STANDISH, ME - Saint Joseph's College (1-3-1)
defeated Thomas College (1-3-0) on Tuesday evening on an own-goal
by the Terriers in the fourth minute of overtime. Sophomore
Paul Robins (Cornwall, England)
netted the game-tying marker in the 86th minute to send the game to
an extra frame.
Terriers senior forward Tim Costa (Pelham, NH) opened the game
scoring in the 39th minute on a breakaway goal that was set up by
teammate Scott Pullen '12 (Endwell, NY) to give his team a 1-0
lead.
The one-goal advantage stood until Robins
connected on a header after a scramble in front of the Thomas net
with barely over three minutes left in regulation.
The opportunistic Monks earned their first victory of the season
after confusion in front of the Thomas goal resulted in a
mishandled ball that got past Terriers goalkeeper Keegan Curtain
(Durham, ME) 3:07 into the extra frame.
Saint Joseph's will travel to Nashua, NH on Thursday, September
18th to face off against Daniel Webster College in a 4:00 PM
contest. Thomas College will play host to Husson University on
Saturday, September 20th at 1:00 PM.
