BOSTON, MA - Will Pike '10 (Gorham, ME) made eight saves in a shutout effort to help the Monks (6-4-1, 3-1 GNAC) defeat Emerson College (3-6, 2-3), 2-0, in a GNAC Men's Soccer contest on Sunday afternoon. Doug MacCallum '10 (Hingham, MA) and Paul Robins '11 (Cornwall, England) scored the SJC goals in the trumph.
Both Monk goals came in the first 30 minutes as
MacCallum took a cross from teammate
Jesse West (So., Sheldon, Vt.) in
the 10th minute. Taking the pass from his left,
MacCallum drove the ball into the center of the
net from 10 yards.
In the 30th minute MacCallum on a three-on-two
passed the ball from the right wing to Robins. who shot from 15
yards in the center to the upper left corner of the Emerson
net.
Emerson's Nick Strauss (Sr., Norwood, Mass.) made five strong
saves, including one on a penalty kick in the second half.
Emerson had the shooting edge in the game by a 17-11 margin. Each
team had eight corner kicks and Saint Joseph's was offside four
times to only one for the Lions.
Saint Joseph's is idle until next Saturday when the Monks will host
Norwich in a GNAC match-up. Emerson travels to Becker College on
Wednesday for a 7:00pm kickoff in a non-conference game.
