Shangraw & Benner Claim GNAC Accolades

STANDISH, ME – The Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) weekly awards have been released and a pair of Saint Joseph's College men's soccer players have received honors.

Senior midfielder Kyle Shangraw (Westbrook, Maine) has earned GNAC Player of the Week accolades while sophomore goalkeeper Scott Benner (Post Falls, Idaho) has been listed on the GNAC Weekly Honor Roll.

Shangraw has been a pivotal player for the Monks this season and his top level of play continued last week when he tallied a goal and a pair of assists in two victories. The senior assisted on a pair of markers in a 3-0 triumph over University of Southern Maine on Wednesday and scored an insurance goal on a beautiful play in a 2-0 win against Suffolk University on Saturday.

Benner logged 180 minutes of shutout soccer in a pair of Saint Joseph's victories last week. The sophomore made four saves in a 3-0 win over Southern Maine on Wednesday and produced a pair of stops in a 2-0 triumph against Suffolk on Saturday. Overall, Benner has not allowed a goal in his last 241:45 minutes between the pipes.

Through six games for the 3-2-1 Monks, Shangraw leads the side in goals (4), points (11), shots (30) and shots on goal (14) and is tied for the team lead in assists (3).

Benner has made four starts this fall and owns a 0.95 goals against average with a .778 save percentage over 380 total minutes between the pipes as a second-year keeper.

Saint Joseph's will host University of New England in a non-conference match slated to begin at 4:00 PM.
