KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Recognized for outstanding performance in the classroom, the Saint Joseph's College men's soccer team was selected as a National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) College Team Academic Award winner for the 2015-16 academic year, as announced by the organization this fall.
A total of 918 soccer teams (326 men, 592 women) from throughout the United States have earned the NSCAA Team Academic Award, including 236 schools receiving honors for both their men and women's teams. With the SJC women's program also claiming the national honor, Saint Joseph's College is among the list of 236 double honorees and is the lone Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) institution to have both soccer programs earn the prestigious award.
To qualify for the award, the team must have a minimum grade point average of 3.0 or higher for the entire academic year. The team GPA is determined by adding every player's GPA, then dividing by the number of players.
Saint Joseph's is the only GNAC representative on the men's soccer list and is one of three Maine institutions – Bowdoin College and Colby College being the others – to claim an NSCAA Team Academic Award.
