STANDISH, Maine – Freshman Diego Robinson (Hinesburg, Vt.) scored off a Rion Dos Santos (São Paulo, Brazil) pass on a corner kick attempt in the 78th minute to lift Saint Joseph's College (1-1-1, 1-0-0 GNAC) past Dean College (1-1-0, 0-1-0 GNAC), 1-0, in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) men's soccer contest on a muggy Tuesday night at the SJC Athletics Complex.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

Saint Joseph's held a sizeable possession advantage – nearly 70-30 – in what was the GNAC opener for both sides but had trouble cracking the Bulldogs' back line. The defensive battle saw few true scoring chances, as SJC junior keeper Liam Foley (Middleton, Mass.) made his best save of the night in the 43rd minute with a sprawling stop on a Melvin Alves (Brockton, Mass.) bid. Freshman Cole Bishop (Gorham, Maine) had several close calls on fast breaks, but could not convert.

On their ninth corner kick of the night the Monks finally found the back of the net, as placement by Dos Santos eventually found the foot of Robinson, who drilled a side volley into the right side of the net.

TEAM STATS:

Saint Joseph's held the lead in shots (11-4), shots on goal (6-2), and corner kicks (10-2) in the victory.

THE KEEPERS:

Foley made a pair of saves to record the first shutout of his NCAA career while his counterpart, sophomore Jake Godwin (Norwalk, Conn.), played very well with five stops in the setback.

HISTORICALLY SPEAKING:

Saint Joseph's is now 3-0-0 all-time versus Dean College.

NEXT!

Saint Joseph's will host Johnson & Wales University in a key GNAC matchup on Saturday at 4:30 PM.
