STANDISH, Maine – Saint Joseph's College (5-1-2) and Thomas College (1-2-5) battled to a 1-1 stalemate in a non-conference men's soccer contest at the SJC Athletics Complex on Thursday night.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

The Monks opened the game scoring in the sixth minute when freshman Tyler Matheson (Gorham, Maine) slammed home a header off a Kyle Clairmont (Williston, Vt.) free kick from just outside the box. The goal and assist were the first NCAA points for both players.

The hosts continued to pour on the offensive pressure, but the Terriers managed to net the equalizer in the 31st minute when freshman Jack Thompson (Auburn, Maine) delivered a PK attempt to the bottom left corner.

Saint Joseph's nearly regained the lead early in the second stanza when Matheson and Daniel Levesque (Lisbon, Maine) clanged shots off the left post in the first six minutes of the latter half.

TEAM STATS:

Saint Joseph's held the lead in shots (17-7), shots on goal (9-4), and corner kicks (9-1) in the stalemate.

THE KEEPERS:

SJC junior Cristian Rodriguez (Stafford, Va.) made three saves in his first start at Saint Joseph's while Thomas split time in net with sophomore starter Beyden Stratton (Thornton, N.H.) making three stops in the first half and second-year Keein Wright (Burlington, Ontario) turning away five shots in the second half.

HISTORICALLY SPEAKING:

With the result, Saint Joseph's is now 14-9-5 all-time versus Thomas College.

NEXT!

Saint Joseph's is off until next Wednesday when the team hosts New England College in a conference contest set to start at 6:00 PM.
