STANDISH, Maine – Saint Joseph's College (6-1-2, 6-0-0 GNAC) topped New England College (3-2-4, 2-1-3 GNAC), 2-0, in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) men's soccer action at the SJC Athletics Complex on Wednesday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

The Monks dominated possession, but the Pilgrims held the hosts off the board until the 76th minute when sophomore Joseph Perron (South Portland, Maine) notched his second goal of the season. Moving upfield in transition, senior Will Wood (Franklin, N.H.) fed a lead pass to the right side of the box to junior Gus Ford (Falmouth, Maine), who slid to chip the ball to Perron for a beautiful finish to the top right corner of the net.

Three minutes later Ford was awarded a PK attempt after being tackled inside the box and buried the bid into the bottom left side of the net to cap the game scoring.

TEAM STATS:

Saint Joseph's held the lead in shots (18-5) and shots on goal (4-1) while the Pilgrims registered a 6-4 edge in corner kicks.

THE KEEPERS:

SJC junior Liam Foley (Middleton, Mass.) made one save in the shutout effort while NEC junior Hayden Walker (Manchester, N.H.) turned away a pair of shots in the setback.

HISTORICALLY SPEAKING:

Tonight's victory is the Monks' first-ever over New England College, as the Royal Blue entered the contest with an 0-4-0 all-time record versus the Pilgrims. NEC is a first-year member of the GNAC after competing in the now-defunct New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) since 2018.

NEXT!

Saint Joseph's will play at Elms College on Saturday in a GNAC contest set to begin at 5:00 PM.
