CHICOPEE, Mass. – Saint Joseph's College (7-1-2, 7-0-0 GNAC) clipped Elms College (2-7-1, 2-5-1 GNAC), 2-1, in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) men's soccer contest on Saturday evening.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Junior Gus Ford (Falmouth, Maine) put the Monks on the board with his third goal of the season in the eighth minute and the 1-0 edge held until the 37:03 mark, when Elms forward Jacobo Molina Ferrer knotted up the contest with his third tally of the year.
Saint Joseph's had numerous opportunities to net the go-ahead goal and finally did so at the 70:51 mark when junior Nate Sottak (Belmont, N.H.) rifled a kick into the top corner for his first tally of the season.
TEAM STATS:
Saint Joseph's held the lead in shots (16-7), shots on goal (8-4), and corner kicks (6-1) in the victory.
THE KEEPERS:
SJC junior Liam Foley (Middleton, Mass.) made three stops for the visitors while Collin Liedke turned away six shots in a losing effort.
HISTORICALLY SPEAKING:
With the win, Saint Joseph's improves to 3-1-0 all-time versus Elms College.
