Bowden Named GNAC Swimmer of the Week

STANDISH, Maine – The Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) weekly awards have been released and Saint Joseph's College senior Preston Bowden (Biddeford, Maine) has been selected as the Men's Swimmer of the Week.

Bowden placed first in the 50-Back (28.38) and 200-Back (2:15.83) and swam legs for both SJC winning relay teams in a 151-96 victory over Husson University on Saturday.

Bowden, who was honored along with fellow seniors Adam Gaulin (Belfast, Maine) and Kelly Carter (Dedham, Mass.) with a brief Senior Day ceremony prior to the meet versus Husson, is the first Saint Joseph's men's swimmer to garner GNAC Swimmer of the Week accolades. He is the second Monk to earn a weekly conference award, as sophomore Ben Johnson (Belmont, Mass.), who claimed Rookie of the Week acclaim on November 25th, 2013, was the first to collect a weekly honor from the GNAC, which began sponsoring men's swimming weekly awards last winter.

Bowden has swum in more individual events (123) than any men's swimmer in program history. With two regular-season meets remaining, the senior standout has 16 top finishes and 17 runner-up performances to his credit.

His name is listed in the SJC record book twice – he swam legs for the Monks' record-setting 400-Medley (3:50.20) and 200-Free (1:33.69) relay teams at the 2013 and 2014 NEISDA Championships, respectively.

Saint Joseph's returns to action this Saturday with a 1:00 PM home meet versus Gordon College.
