Men Place 15th at Jim Sheehan Memorial

FITCHBURG, MA - The Saint Joseph's College outdoor men's track and field team placed 15th with six points in the Jim Sheehan Memorial at Fitchburg State University on Saturday.

One of the highlights of the day was the effort put forth by junior Faisal Abdillahi (Lewiston, Maine), who placed sixth in the 400 meter dash (52.14). Freshman Sam Dunay (Groton, Conn.) was quite busy, placing 13th in the 110 meter hurdles (20.36), 17th in the long jump (4.93m) and 18th in the javelin throw (36.65m), while freshman Asad Dahia (Portland, Maine/North Yarmouth Academy) also showed well with a 14th-place effort in the long jump (5.22m).

Freshman Billy Brooks (Cape Elizabeth, Maine) was 17th in the 200 meter dash (24.34) and sophomore Jeff Merrill (Fitchburg, Mass.) placed 17th in the javelin throw (36.76m) and 45th in the 400 meter dash (1:01.22). Also, the Monks' 4x100 meter relay placed sixth with a 48.00 effort.

Junior Krubiel Workie (Denver, Colo.) finished 18th in the long jump (4.72m), freshman Jerome Diggs (Washington, D.C.) finished 20th in the long jump (4.57m) and 33rd in the 100 meter dash (12.59), sophomore Joe DiSalvo (Derry, N.H.) was 23rd in the 800 meter run (2:19.53) and 29th in the 1500 meter run (4:33.64) and freshman Andrew Caron (Gardiner, Maine) finished 24th in the 800 meter run (2:22.15).

Sophomore Robert Travers (Lebanon, Maine) placed 25th in the shot put (6.59m) and 30th in the discus throw (13.31m), freshman Mark McCarraher (Franklin, Mass.) finished 32nd in the 400 meter dash (59.71), freshman Taidghe Hagan (Reading, Mass.) placed 35th in the 1500 meter run (4:41.00), freshman Cole Milazzo (Richmond, Vt.) placed 36th in the 400 meter dash (1:01.45) and junior Cody Grasruck (Rumford, Maine) placed 49th in the 100 meter dash (13.26).

Colby College won the event with 171.50 points, comfortably ahead of runner-up Bates College, which registered 125.50 points in the event. Keene State College (96 points), University of Southern Maine (83) and Colby-Sawyer College (61.50) rounded out the top five programs.

Saint Joseph's returns to action on Saturday when the team participates in the Springtime Invitational at Brown University.
