Three SJC Men's Track & Field/Cross Country Athletes Secure CSC Academic All-District® Honors

STANDISH, Maine – The 2023 College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District® Men's and Women's Track & Field and Cross Country Teams have been announced and three Saint Joseph's College male athletes have collected accolades.

Grad student Troy Hendricks (Hiram, Maine), senior Devin Abbott (Berwick, Maine), and sophomore Dylan Dickey (Laconia, N.H.) have claimed the high academic award for the first time in their college careers.

Three SJC female athletes also earned CSC Academic All-District® honors, as junior Abby O'Brien (Gorham, Maine) and sophomores Lyndy Hyndman (Auburn, Maine) and Terry Cassetta (Sandy Hook, Conn.) were listed on the regional team for their efforts in the classroom.

All three athletes played significant roles in helping the Monks win the 2023 Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Indoor and Outdoor Track & Field Championships.

Hendricks, a Communication major as an undergrad who is pursuing an M.S. in Business Administration, tallied three All-GNAC honors at the Outdoor Championship, which was hosted at Saint Joseph's on April 30th. He won the 3000-meter steeplechase (10:36.46) and placed third in the 5000-meter run (17:27.38) and 10,000-meter run (35:44.66) events.

Hendricks also picked up a pair of All-GNAC honors at the Indoor Championship with third-place finishes in the 800-Meter (2:06.74) and 5000-Meter (17:16.47) events took place at the Boston University Track & Tennis Center on February 12th.

Abbott, a Sports Management major, claimed three All-Conference honors in the Outdoor Championship with a victory in the 10,000-meter run (35.12.70) and second-place finishes in the 1500-meter run (4:23.00) and 5000-meter run (17:19.56) events

The senior captain also earned a trio of All-Conference awards at the Indoor Championship after posting second-place finishes in the 1-Mile (4:40.74), 3000-Meter (9:54.41), and 5000-Meter (17:15.66) races.

Hendrix and Abbott finished first and second, respectively, in the GNAC Cross Country Championship, hosted by St. Joe's on October 29th. With the individual victory (29:42.4), Hendrix was named as the GNAC Runner of the Year and claimed his fourth All-Conference honor in as many seasons. Abbott finished two seconds (29:44.1) behind Hendricks to secure the first All-Conference honor of his college career.

Dickey, a Business & Sports Management major, took home three All-GNAC honors in the Outdoor Championship after winning the javelin throw (52.69), placing second in the high jump (1.75m), and finishing third in the discus throw (27.73m). The sophomore standout also placed second in the High Jump (1.80m) at the Indoor Championship to earn All-GNAC honors.

To be nominated for Academic All-District honors, a student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.50 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) at their current institution. Nominated athletes must have participated in at least 50 percent of the team's games/events. Student-athletes are not eligible until they have completed one full calendar year at their current institution and been on a college roster in that sport for two years.
