WATERVILLE, ME - The Saint Joseph's College men's outdoor track & field team placed fifth with 18 points in the 2014 Maine State Championship at Colby College on Saturday. Freshman Calvin Field (Windham, Maine) highlighted the event by winning the high jump - and broke his own team record - with a 1.88m performance.

Four team records were broken and another was tied in the annual championship meet. Sophomore Sam Dunay (Groton, Conn.) snapped the team records in the javelin throw (44.45m) and 110-meter hurdles (17.33), placing third and ninth, respectively, in the individual events. Junior captain Joe DiSalvo (Derry, N.H.) placed 11th with a program-record 10:52.02 effort in the 3000-meter steeplechase while Dunay, Field, Faisal Abdillahi (Lewiston, Maine) and Mark McCarraher (Franklin, Mass.) combined to top the SJC outdoor record with a 45.61 time, good for fifth overall, in the 4 x 100 meter relay.

Junior Shaun Young (Wentworth, N.H.) tied the Monks' 100-meter dash record with an 11.83 performance. Field posted the same time in the George Davis Invitational last Saturday.

Abdillahi also placed fifth in the 400-meter dash with a 52.16 effort in the State Championship meet.

Saint Joseph's returns to action this Sunday with an appearance in the Pride Classic at Regis College in Weston, Massachusetts.
