Hutchinson Hired as Head Cross Country and Track & Field Coach

STANDISH, Maine – Saint Joseph's College Athletics Director Brian Curtin has announced that Scott Hutchinson has been hired to fill the newly created full-time position of Head Cross Country and Track & Field Coach.

Among the most respected and well-known cross country and track & field head coaches in the region, Hutchinson has been coaching at the college level for nearly three decades, including 15 seasons at Babson College and eight years at the University of Southern Maine.

The veteran skipper has earned 13 Coach of the Year accolades and was listed as a New England Coach of the Year candidate on five occasions. Hutchinson has led his teams to 12 conference titles, two indoor Maine State Championships, and numerous top-10 finishes in the NCAA DIII New England Regional Championships.

"We are very pleased to have Scott join our staff," adds Curtin. "We believe that not only will he be a successful leader of these programs, but that he will also be a strong fit in the athletics department and on this campus. His desire to create a quality experience for students and his focus to make students better people by the time they graduate are examples of what we strive for at Saint Joseph's."

During his prestigious career, he has groomed an astounding total of 631 All-Conference honorees (79 cross country, 284 indoor, 268 outdoor), 204 NCAA DIII All-New England recipients (17 cross country, 187 track & field), 114 All-ECAC winners (seven cross country, 117 track & field), 24 NCAA Academic All-Americans, and eight NCAA All-Americans. Hutchinson has also led his teams to a total of 13 NCAA Academic All-America honors.

"I am truly honored in being hired to fill the new position of Head Cross Country and Track & Field Coach at Saint Joseph's College," adds Hutchinson. "I have admired Saint Joseph's from afar for a long time, starting when I was a competitor for Presque Isle, to bringing some of my former teams to run in events on the SJC course, I have found Saint Joseph's to have a beautiful campus and have seen it grow so much over the years."

Hutchinson, who holds a USA Track/Field Level 1 certification and is a member of the U.S. Track and Field Cross Country Coaches Association, comes to Saint Joseph's after serving as the cross country and track & field coach at University of Maine-Farmington, where he guided the Beavers cross country program to significant improvements within the North Atlantic Conference, and the New England Region overall, last fall.

"I would like to thank Brian Curtin and the search committee for this great opportunity," Hutchinson continues. "I look forward to building these programs into being among New England's best and will recruit young men and women who take pride in being a Monk and, after graduating from Saint Joseph's in four years, will make a positive difference in our society."

A Carthage, Maine native, Hutchinson received his Bachelor of Science degree in Recreation Management from the University of Maine-Presque Isle in 1986. He resides in Gorham, Maine with his wife Stacie and two children Scott and Samantha.
