STANDISH, ME - St. Joe's (20-12, 15-7 GNAC) overcame a 10-1
mercy-rule defeat in game one to earn a split with a 5-4
come-from-behind victory over Pine Manor College (26-9, 20-4 GNAC)
in the nightcap. SO Christy
Wezowicz (Granville, MA) notched her eighth win of
the season on the hill for the Lady Monks and JR
Alysn Ludwig (Waldoboro, ME) and
FY Alyssa Dunn (Standish, ME)
tallied three hits apiece in the two games.
GAME
ONE
Pine Manor scored a run in the first and three runs in the third,
fifth and sixth innings to gain the 10-1 mercy-rule victory. The
Lady Monks scored their only run of the game in the fourth inning
when Ludwig reached with a single and scored on a SO Liddy van der
Linden (Worcester, MA) groundout.
For St. Joe's, Alysn Ludwig was
2-3 and pitcher FY Kiera Walsh
(Benton, ME) struck out 6 batters and allowed 4 earned runs to take
the loss and fall to 12-5 on the season.
For Pine Manor, Courtney Wallace (Steep Falls, ME) hit a three-run
home run and had 4 RBI's in the game, Kelly Pirzl (Dalton, MA) went
4-4 with 3 runs and Krissy Travers (Freeport, NY) was 2-2 with 3
RBI's. Starter Nicole Vocaturo (Bellmore, NY) scattered 4 hits and
struck out 4 to earn the victory on the mound for the Gators.
GAME
TWO
After two scoreless innings, Jackie Martinez (Albuquerque, NM)
doubled home two runs and Patty Pabon (Bronx, NY) recorded an RBI
single to help the Gators stake a 4-0 lead in the top of the
third.
St. Joe's countered to score three runs in the bottom of the third
to make it a one-run game, 4-3. SO Jillian
Kimball (Albany TWP, ME) hit a two-RBI single to
score both pinch runner FY Jillian
McInnis (Peabody, MA) and Alysn
Ludwig and Alyssa
Dunn singled home SO Anna
Willis (Gorham, ME) to record an RBI.
Two scoreless innings followed before the Lady Monks broke through
in the sixth to take their first lead of the day.
Alyssa Dunn doubled with one out
and SO Kayla Soucy (Colebrook,
NH) replaced her at second base as a pinch runner. SR
Megan Farrell (Abington, MA)
followed with a single to send Soucy to third.
With two out, FY Ellen Neff
(Chester, VT) hit a line-shot, two-RBI single past the PMC second
baseman to send home both Soucy and
Farrell and give St. Joe's a 5-4 lead.
Starting pitcher SO Christy
Wezowicz (Granville, MA) pitched a scoreless
seventh to close out the victory for the Lady Monks. In seven
innings, Wezowicz allowed 8 hits and 3 earned runs to improve her
season record to 8-7.
Anna Willis was 2-3 with a run,
Jillian Kimball 1-3 with 2 RBI's
and Alyssa Dunn went 3-3 with an
RBI in the SJC victory.
For Pine Manor, Jackie Martinez was 2-3 with 2 RBI's and Patty
Pabon went 2-4 with a run and an RBI. Starting pitcher Samantha
Tempe (Wanaque, NJ) takes the loss for the Gators.
St. Joe's will host GNAC opponent Norwich University in a
doubleheader on Sunday, April 20th at 1:00 PM.
