GNAC Softball All-Conference Teams Announced

STANDISH, ME - The Great Northeast Athletic Conference has announced its 2009 Softball All-Conference selections. Emily Leverone '11 (Hampton, NH) and Liz Jordan '09 (Sandwich, MA) have been named to the First Team, Kiera Walsh '11 (Benton, ME) is listed on the Second Team and Alyssa Dunn '11 (Standish, ME) has been voted to the Third Team.

Leverone , a first-year player, has posted outlandish numbers for the Lady Monks this season. Heading into the GNAC Tournament, she leads the conference in hitting (.586), slugging percentage (1.000), on-base percentage (.611), hits (68), doubles (17) and total bases (116) and ranks second in runs (39), RBI (44) and triples (5). As of April 19 th , her batting average was the second-highest in NCAA DIII Softball, while her slugging percentage ranked third and her on-base percentage was fifth. She has set program single-season records for hits, doubles and home runs and is well on her way to doing the same for batting, slugging percentage, on-base percentage and runs batted in. The third baseman has been named as the GNAC Player of the Week on three occasions and received regional recognition as the NEISCA Player of the Week on April 22 nd .

Leverone hit a three-run home run, her 8 th long ball of the season, to help lift the Lady Monks to a 3-0 win over Suffolk in a GNAC Quarterfinal at Ward Park on Friday. Saint Joseph's, now 27-10 overall, wrapped up their conference docket with an 18-6 record to earn the #2 seed.

For Jordan , the All-Conference honor is her first. Through 37 games, the senior outfielder is hitting .365 (38-104) with 26 runs and 10 stolen bases. Always putting pressure on the defense with her speed, Jordan is a perfect 10-10 on pilfer attempts this season and 23-23 in her two seasons at St. Joe's. She also was selected as the team's representative on the GNAC All-Sportsmanship Team.

Walsh is enjoying another banner year under the watch of Head Coach Jamie Smyth '92. The standout sophomore hurler is currently 10-3 with 61 strikeouts, against just four walks, in 84 1/3 innings and has recorded four shutouts on the year. Her 1.58 earned run average is tops on the squad and has posted a 25-11 record in two seasons while donning the Royal Blue. The All-Conference nomination is the first of her career.

Walsh collected the decision against Suffolk in Friday's quarterfinal triumph with seven shutout innings.

Dunn , a key cog in the SJC offensive machine, also is a first-time All-Conference honoree. The powerful first baseman ranks second on the team with a .402 (41-102) batting average and 13 doubles, and has driven in 26 runs while scoring 18 times. A very steady performer, Dunn's career batting average stands at .391, tied for the fourth-highest in program history.

The Lady Monks will play at 2:00 PM on Saturday at Lasell College against top-seeded Emerson College in a GNAC Semi-Final match-up. The league tourney action continues on Sunday at Mount Ida College.
